This ensures that they and our firm share the same understanding of how their new web site will be used to help achieve overall business strategy.

When this does not happen serious disconnections are likely. First, the business team is not happy with the financial results that the web site was intended to help achieve. Second, the IT personnel are put in a bad position trying to defend why they approached the web development effort in the fashion that they did.
